"City
of Dreams, River of History," by artists Richard Wyatt, May Sun and
Paul Diez, is a multi-faceted work that resounds with the history of the
Union Station site in downtown Los Angeles.
An 80-foot mural by Richard Wyatt contains images of Native Americans
and settlers of the LA basin along with contemporary residents. A "river"
of more than 200 floor paving elements depicts native plants and transportation.
An undulating 7,500-gallon aquarium holds indigenous coastal fish. Line
drawings of historical figures are etched into the aquarium glass.
A nearby river bench is made of rocks from the LA River and Tujunga Creek.
Water trickles here onto artifacts embedded into the bench. The artifacts
were excavated from the original Chinatown and were donated by the Chinese
Historical Society of Southern California.
