Dr. Roy L. Wolfe oversees Corporate Resources
at Metropolitan. Corporate Resources includes
all aspects of Engineering, Information Technology
and Business Services. In this capacity, Dr. Wolfe
oversees a staff of nearly 700 employees with an annual
budget exceeding $500 million, including Metropolitan’s
10-year $3.4 billion Capital Investment Plan. He
was formerly Metropolitan’s Associate Director
or Water Quality and project manager for Metropolitan’s
strategic
plan.
Wolfe earned his B.A. in Zoology from San Diego
State University in 1980. He went on to earn a doctorate
in environmental analysis from the University of California
at Irvine in 1985. He was also a research scientist
and lecturer at the university before joining Metropolitan
in that same year.
In his current capacity, Wolfe has also overseen the development
of Metropolitan’s 5-year Information Technology Strategic
Plan, restructured the district’s Capital Investment
Plan, participated in labor, property, and project negotiations,
and provided oversight in working with Metropolitan’s
member agencies in numerous areas including assessment
of new facilities to meet growing water needs. He
is also co-host of Metropolitan’s award-winning video
magazine, Straight from the Tap.
He has also had a lead role in developing the California
urban position and consensus on water quality issues of
the CAL-FED Bay-Delta Program. He was formerly chair
of the California Urban Water Agencies’ water quality
committee, a member of CAL-FED’s water quality technical
committee and was appointed to the governor of California’s
panel on MTBE as it affects drinking water. He was
also appointed to the National Academy of Sciences panel
to develop research priorities for the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency.
Most
recently, Wolfe was elected vice chair of the Board of Trustees
for
the
American
Water Works Association Research Foundation. Dr. Wolfe
has authored or co-authored more than 60 scientific publications
during his 25 years of involvement in drinking water quality
issues.
