Water industry affiliations:
Fellow has served as president and vice president of the board of directors of Upper San Gabriel Valley Municipal Water District since his election in 1990. He also has served as an alternate on the San Gabriel Valley Water Quality Authority, an organization responsible for the cleanup of one of the nations most contaminated underground water supplies. In 1995 he was appointed to the Los Angeles County Water Appeals board by Supervisor Gloria Molina. He retired from the El Monte City Council after serving two terms as vice mayor and councilman.
Professional and community activities:
Fellow is professor of communications and coordinator of the journalism concentration at California State University, Fullerton, where he was named a distinguished teacher/scholar in 2005. He teaches undergraduate courses in American media history, communications law, and graduate seminars in media and politics, international communications, communications and governance, and theory and research in communications. He also serves as an adjunct professor in the Annenberg School for Communication, University of Southern California.
Fellow is author of American Media History (Wadsworth Publishing Company); Writing in a Multimedia World (Kendall-Hunt Publishers) and Copy Editor's Handbook for Newspapers (Morton Publishing Company).
In addition to his research in media and politics, Dr. Fellow has spoken internationally on his research in health communications. He is the author of many articles on the impact of the media in informing the public about AIDS, alcohol-warning labels, and breast cancer.
Fellow is a member of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications, and the national and Los Angeles chapter of the Society of Professional Journalists.
A writer and editor for a number of publications, including the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Fellow covered Sacramento and Washington, D.C. Among his assignments were the presidential campaigns of Gerald Ford and Jimmy Carter. As a journalist, he also was under contract with Universal Studios, where he played the part of a reporter in Kingston Confidential, a series filmed at his newspaper starring Raymond Burr.
