Water industry affiliations:
Wright served on the Torrance Water Commission from 1976 to 1984 and on the Torrance Environmental Commission from 1984 to 1992. In 1993, Wright received his second community service award from the Torrance City Council for his work on these commissions. Wright is a member of the Association of California Water Agencies, National Water Resources Association and the Colorado River Water Users Association. He is also an alternate member of the Colorado River Board of California.
Professional and community activities:
Wright taught physics for 29 years at West High School in Torrance before retiring in June 1993. He also taught summer school courses in oceanography at West for 11 years, with units about local freshwater aquifers and Torrance's seawater intrusion problem. In 1984, he was first saluted for his experimental work teaching local high school students about solar energy processes. In 1987, Southern California Edison honored Wright with its Outstanding Teacher Award.
