LA HABRA CITY COUNCILMEMBER
SEATED ON METROPOLITAN BOARD

La Habra City Councilmember and Orange County sanitation official Steve Anderson took his seat today on the Board of Directors of the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California.

Anderson is among four directors representing the Municipal Water District of Orange County on the 37-member Metropolitan board.  He replaces Wes Bannister, who served on the Metropolitan board since January 1993.

Elected to the La Habra City Council in 1992, Anderson has served three terms as mayor.  He is general manager of Midway City Sanitary District, which provides sewer and solid waste disposal services for Midway City and Westminster.

At Metropolitan, Anderson will serve on the board’s Communications and Legislation Committee, and Legal and Human Resources Committee.

Anderson also is co-owner of Anderson Consulting Services, a La Habra-based consulting firm that provides public works construction management and inspection services.  Prior to forming his consulting firm in 1998, Anderson served as a construction inspector and supervisor in water engineering for the city of Anaheim for 13 years.

As a member of the Orange County Sanitation District’s board of directors since 1993, where he is immediate past chairman, Anderson chairs OCSD’s Cooperative Projects Committee and serves on the board’s Urban Water Runoff Committee.

He also serves on the Orange County Water District’s steering committee for the district’s Groundwater Replenishment System, one of the world’s largest water recycling projects.

Anderson, a member of the La Habra Host Lions Club, has served as president on the La Habra Little League and as the city of La Habra’s community services commissioner.

Born in Los Angeles, Anderson served in the U.S. Navy Air Corps from 1972 to 1976.  He has completed courses in water distribution from Mt. San Antonio College and in water treatment and cross-connection control at Rancho Santiago College.

Anderson and his wife, Josie, reside in La Habra and have two sons.

The Metropolitan Water District of Southern California is a cooperative of 26 cities and water agencies serving 18 million people in six counties. The district imports water from the Colorado River and Northern California to supplement local supplies, and helps its members to develop increased water conservation, recycling, storage, and other resource-management programs.
