Metropolitan’s Climate Action Plan sets tangible targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions.  We embrace the leadership role we have within California by establishing GHG reduction goals that exceed those set by the state. The goals include reducing emissions by 60 percent by 2030 and achieving carbon neutrality by 2045.

Climate Action Plan___

Long before this plan was formalized, we took steps in many areas to strengthen the region against the impacts of climate change. Since 1990, we have invested $1.5 billion in local resource development and conservation, contributing to cumulative water savings of nearly 7.3 million acre-feet (about 2.3 billion gallons).  Even in the face of a population that has grown by about 30 percent, we have seen water use go down by 20 percent over the same time period.

As we've upgraded our infrastructure, we've embraced new, sustainable energy technologies. Metropolitan has invested in energy resources by buying and generating hydro power and by installing photovoltaic solar panels at our facilities. We're also investing in battery energy storage to store the renewable energy we produce to use at the optimal time.

We support sustainable transportation. Our headquarters building is strategically located adjacent to the public transportation hub of downtown Los Angeles’ Union Station. Our employees also have access to EV charging stations and rideshare programs. Our facilities also are designed to be energy efficient, achieving Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design certifications for our headquarters building and Diamond Valley Lake Visitor Center.

Climate Action Plan___

The preservation of natural lands, undertaken to mitigate for some of Metropolitan’s construction projects, helps reduce the amount of carbon released to the atmosphere.  Four multi-species reserves, spanning about 30,000 acres, are the cornerstone of our investments in environmental conservation and stewardship.
