Professional and community activities:
Russell Lefevre retired in 2002 after 30 years in small businesses specializing in remote sensing applications. He is a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the American Association for the Advancement of Science. He also served as a scientific advisor for U.S. Senator John D. "Jay" Rockefeller IV (R-W.Va.).
Lefevre is past member and chair of the city of Torrance’s Water Commission. He is a member and past president of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers-USA and the IEEE Society of Aerospace and Electronics Engineers. He serves on IEEE committees on Global Public Policy, Smart Grid, Electrical Transportation and Humanitarian Technology.
Lefevre earned bachelor's and master's degrees in physics from the University of North Dakota and holds a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of California, Santa Barbara. He also holds an appointment as adjunct professor of physics at the University of North Dakota.
Lefevre and his wife, Carole, have three children and six grandchildren.
