Professional and community activities:
In 2016, Tana McCoy retired after 40 years as a Compton city employee to accept an appointment to represent District 3 on the Compton City Council, where she was then elected in 2017. She was council liaison to the mayor’s and city council office for 30 years before transitioning into a senior administrative analyst position for the Compton Water Department.
For three decades, McCoy was the city’s staff representative on the Compton Commission on the Status of Women. She also volunteered on various city service committees and helped coordinate health fairs and other special events and programs in the city. She represents Compton on the Compton Creek Mosquito Abatement District Board, Compton Creek Task Force Revitalization Committee, Independent Cities Association, and is the city’s alternate representative to the League of California Cities.
McCoy studied business at Associated Business College in Los Angeles.
